5 Generations

Last week my grandfather passed away. He had been sick for a long time and had been on oxygen for the last 6 months. Thankfully Sean and I had made the trip down with my parents to see my grandparents the weekend before he passed away. It was really good to see him, and as we left we knew he probably didn't have much longer. He passed away 4 days later, so we made the trip back down to Leary for the funeral.

My grandparents have lived in the same house in Leary since my mom was a little girl. Leary is a tiny town south of the gnat line in Georgia, it's one of those "blink and you might miss it" kind of towns. A lot of my mom's family is from Leary and has been farming the land around Leary for years.

Visiting Leary is like going back in time. My grandparent's still have dial-up internet and our cell phones don't have service. There is no grocery store, just a small mini-mart/gas station with all your basic needs (thankfully they have diapers). But if you like farming, hunting, fishing, or gnats, Leary is for you.

We went down Saturday and stayed through Monday for the funeral. We got to see a lot of family members that we hadn't seen in a while, and Sean got to meet a lot of people for the first time, including his great-great-great Uncle Truman. We were able to get a picture of the 5 generations, Sean, me, my mom, my grandmother, and my great-great-uncle. Not many people have an opportunity to get a picture like that.

It was a really hard weekend, but it was good to be with family. Sean did so good making the long drive and going to the visitation and funeral. Poor thing came down with a cold and ear infection while we were there, but nothing gets him down. He is such a happy kid :)
